Preceptorship Grant Program

AzDA supports dentists who provide meaningful, uncompensated clinical training experiences for Arizona graduate dental students.

The Arizona Dental Association is excited to administer the State of Arizona Grant Program for Preceptors of Healthcare Graduate Students, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Health Services.

The program was created to help address healthcare workforce shortages in Arizona by encouraging more preceptorship opportunities for graduate students.

This grant runs until June 2027 or until available funds are depleted, whichever occurs first.

Arizona dentists and specialists who provide qualifying clinical mentoring experiences for graduate dental students.

How the Preceptorship Grant works

The process is straightforward: complete the preceptorship, gather your documents, submit the application, and wait for review.

Receive grant support

Approved preceptors may receive $1,000 per state fiscal year.

Eligibility requirements

  • Be a dentist or specialist licensed pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 32, and in good standing.
  • Provide an uncompensated mentoring experience.
  • Serve as a volunteer preceptor for an Arizona graduate dental student.
  • Provide training lasting at least 4 weeks, beginning on or after June 1, 2023.
  • Provide an educational opportunity that helps the student obtain an eligible professional degree.
  • Only one student will be credited/assigned to a dentist for this program. Multiple dentists can not each claim the same student.

Application processing schedule

Following submission, preceptors will be notified of their approval or denial on the first business day of the following month. If approved, please allow up to 30 business days to receive grant funds.

Before you apply

Submit one application per state fiscal year, which runs from July 1 through June 30.

Only list preceptorships that have concluded. Do not list any ongoing preceptorships, as doing so may delay processing.

Do not forget to submit your W-9, professional license, and certificate of insurance if applicable with your application.
