Sierra Vista Dentist Completes Term as Arizona Dental Association President
Scottsdale AZ, March 31, 2010: During a meeting of the Arizona Dental Association (AzDA) House of Delegates on March 6, 2010, Donald C. Simpson, DDS (who maintains a private general dentistry practice at 2520 E. Wilcox Drive in Sierra Vista, AZ) completed his one-year term as the 101st President of AzDA when he passed the official "President’s Pin” to Mark B. Hughes, DDS (Glendale, AZ). During his term, which began on March 14, 2009, Dr. Simpson presided over meetings of the AzDA Board of Trustees, represented AzDA to civic/professional organizations and government agencies statewide and in Washington, DC; served on association councils and committees and appointed chairs and members to those groups; served as a Delegate to the American Dental Association; and wrote monthly columns for the AzDA publication. With some 20 hours each week devoted to AzDA business over the past year, Dr. Simpson is glad to return to the full-time practice of dentistry. "The responsibilities of the association President are not easy,” he says. "However, serving in this capacity is a privilege and the highest honor to which I might aspire as a dentist. As the time-honored adage goes, "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem,’ and I am grateful for the opportunity to do whatever I can to protect and enhance the profession of dentistry – and very grateful to my family, staff, and patients for their support, encouragement, and patience during my term of office.” As Immediate Past President of AzDA, Dr. Simpson will continue to serve the Board of Trustees in an advisory capacity over the next year to enable a smooth transition. Dr. Simpson has been practicing dentistry in Sierra Vista for more than 30 years. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and Academy of Dentistry International. His service to the community also includes volunteering through the Arizona Dental Foundation to provide charitable dental care to underprivileged children. He is a licensed pilot and history buff – for more than 10 years he portrayed Doc Holliday, the famous gun-toting outlaw who was also a dentist, in reenactments of the gunfight at the OK Corral.
