Roger Briggs Named "Dentist of the Year" by Arizona Dental Association
Scottsdale AZ, May 1, 2009: During its 2009 Western Regional Dental Convention March 12-14, the Arizona Dental Association (AzDA) named Roger A. Briggs, DDS its "Dentist of the Year." The selection was made by the AzDA Board of Trustees, comprising dentists from all areas of the state, based upon "outstanding contributions to the profession of dentistry in Arizona." The award was presented by Regina E. Cobb, DDS (AzDA President 2008-2009) on March 14 before the AzDA House of Delegates at the Phoenix Convention Center. Born in Havere, Montana, Dr. Briggs earned his DDS degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (Loma Linda, CA). He became licensed to practice General Dentistry in Arizona in 1973 and maintains a private General Dentistry practice in Scottsdale where his son Brad also practices dentistry and his daughter Serina is a licensed dental hygienist. Dr. Briggs' service to organized dentistry includes but is not limited to: Member of the AzDA Board of Trustees, President of the Central Arizona Dental Society (CADS), Delegate to the AzDA House of Delegates, CADS Nominations & Elections Committee, and Chair of the CADS Dental Health Committee. When asked what he believes dentistry's greatest opportunities are today, he replied: "For one, our opportunity for heightening public awareness about the connection between oral health and overall health is huge. And, we will always have opportunities to educate and be educated by other health care professionals such as physicians so that we can work as a team to help control diabetes and help prevent other medical conditions that are demonstrated to be linked to poor oral health."
