 Dr. Mark Hughes

Dr. Hughes was born in Highland, IL, a small rural town (pop. 9,400) located approximately 30 miles from St. Louis, MO. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and his DDS from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He became licensed to practice dentistry in Arizona in 1984, the same year he opened his General Dentistry practice in Glendale (July 16).
Dr. Hughes’ service to organized dentistry began when he joined the American Student Dental Association, which elected him National Vice President 1983-84. Since then he has served in many capacities including but not limited to President of the Central Arizona Dental Society, Alternate Delegate to the ADA, AzDA Board Liaison to Midwestern University School of Dental Medicine (Glendale, AZ), AzDA Council on Budget and Planning, AzDA Council on Nominations and Elections, and Board of Directors of AzDA Services, Inc., the wholly owned subsidiary of the Arizona Dental Association.
Dr. Hughes and Mrs. Kris Hughes will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary in August 2010. The couple has raised four soccer champion daughters: Brooke (high school science teacher), Brean (salon owner), Lauren (3rd grade teacher), and Shannon (currently completing her accounting degree). The Hughes’ also have two grandsons, Mason (16 months) and Carson (5 months).
As President of the Arizona Dental Association, Dr. Hughes will represent AzDA to government agencies and civic/professional organizations. He will serve on association councils and committees, appoint chairs to those groups, serve as a Delegate to the American Dental Association, and write columns for the association’s publication. |

Dr. Roda received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (1977) and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (1981) from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. Prior to coming to Arizona, he practiced as a general dentist in Nova Scotia, Canada, for 10 years. He earned his Master of Science in Oral Biology and Certificate of Specialty in Endodontics from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas in 1993. In 1998, he became a Diplomat of the American Board of Endodontics.
In his role with AzDA, Dr. Roda serves as a delegate to the American Dental Association and as Associate Editor of the association's monthly magazine, Inscriptions. In addition, he is an Endodontic Consultant to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Endodontic Department at Baylor, and Associate Editor of the Journal of Endodontics. He is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Endodontists, the Canadian Academy of Endodontics and the Central Arizona Dental Society (CADS). His outside interests include golf, lecturing, astronomy, skiing, and computers. |

Kevin Earle is the Executive Director for the Arizona Dental Association having started this position in September 2008. Prior to joining AzDA, Mr. Earle served as the Executive Director for the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners since July 2007. Mr. Earle has an extensive background in regulatory management. Prior to coming to Arizona, Mr. Earle worked in New Jersey and oversaw several licensing boards, including dentistry, chiropractic, acupuncture and midwifery.
Mr. Earle was born and raised in northern New Jersey. He received his bachelor's degree in 1975 from George Washington University, MBA in 1981 from Rutgers University, and completed his Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy at Columbia University in 2004. |
